The rise of the 'mangagement' ring

Monday, December 05, 2011
A new trend to take hold of the jewelry world is the rise in popularity of the 'mangagement' ring - or man's engagement ring.

Heterosexual couples are said to be increasingly turning to the commitment rings, demonstrating a forward-thinking, modern approach to an age-old traditional of engagement rings.

Wedding and engagement ring retailers across the US and Canada are said to be offering more and more choices to men when it comes to engagement rings, with the concept looking set to grow in strength over the coming years.

Currently, in certain regions such as South America, it is common practise for a man to wear an engagement ring, often sporting the jewelry on his right hand until after the nuptials, when he will switch it to his left and wear it as a wedding ring.

According to Jewelry Information Center's Amanda Gizzi, the main reason behind the mangagement ring is to show a sense of commitment. She told GalTime.com, “The idea that the man will also wear an engagement ring gives relationships a new sense of equality. It is a pre-commitment, commitment from both the man and the woman.”

There are many options for men's engagement rings, ranging from gold, brushed silver or tungsten and featuring stones such as diamonds or even coloured stones including emeralds and rubies.
